How to Tell If You Need Male Eating Disorder Treatment

A lot of people think that men have it easy in society, and most of the people that think that are women struggling to get ahead. While it may be certainly true in some respects that men have advantages over women, the truth is that women have their share of advantages over men as well. Unfortunately when it comes to body image and self esteem however, these issues affect men and women alike. As a result, our society has become an eating disorder society, and both men and women today suffer from this anxiety ridden disease. For men however, it is much more difficult to seek Male Eating Disorder Treatment than for women, because they often feel that as men, they shouldn't be dealing with this problem at all, and seeking male eating disorder treatment may make them feel weak. While it is true that eating disorders are more commonly experienced by women, this does not mean that men are unable to be afflicted by them.

When men are dealing with eating disorders, they need the same amount of compassion and empathy that women do. As such, it should be easier, not more difficult, for men to seek male eating disorder treatment.

If you think you are suffering from an eating disorder, whether you are male or female you need to seek treatment. The foundation of every eating disorder is the need to control and the addiction one has to the numbers on the scale. Although an eating disorder is not a specified substance addiction, it has a similar profile to an addictive disorder.

Whereas a person addicted to drugs is always looking for their next pill high, a person with an eating disorder gets a rush when the numbers on the scale go down. As well, when an individual that is addicted to alcohol develops a tolerance for alcohol, they need to consume more and more just to get the same level of buzz they once had. With an individual with an eating disorder, losing five or ten pounds will not be enough. Once they become addicted to seeing the numbers on the scale fall, they need to take more and more extreme measures to control that weight going down. Once a body's weight stabilizes or plateaus, those measures to control the scale numbers become even more intense and severe. And, just like the way that an overdose of drugs or alcohol can kill somebody, a person with an eating disorder that takes those measures to control their weight to the extreme, can lose their life.

If this sounds like you, and you are a male, you are not alone. Many men all over America today are seeking male eating disorder treatment in treatment facilities that are safe, secure, and offer a tranquil setting to help you focus on the roots of your problems, and help you fix them. As scary as it sounds to have to start eating again, you can do so in a controlled setting that allows you to learn the principles behind healthy eating, so that you can still maintain a positive body image without sacrificing your health. If you are struggling with this problem that has a similar profile to an addictive disorder, you should seek male eating disorder treatment as soon as possible. You deserve a good quality of life, but you are slowly eating away at your life one day at a time by not living in wellness.
