Three Alabama football players charged with robbery barred from campus pending UA judicial review

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- The three University of Alabama football players charged in early Monday robberies of two students have been suspended and barred from campus until a judicial review is done.

Eddie Williams, Tyler Hayes and D.J. Pettway were each charged with two counts of second-degree robbery after the two UA students were attacked. Williams is also accused of using a stolen UA card and debit card.

"The three students who were arrested on robbery charges have been interim suspended and are not allowed to be on campus pending UA's judicial review, which is expected to be concluded by the end of next week," Deborah Lane, UA assistant vice president for university relations, said in a statement emailed to AL.com Thursday.

Brent Calloway was also arrested Monday on a charge of fraudulent use of a credit card, but was not charged with robbery and was not included with the three who were suspended and barred from campus.

All four players, who were indefinitely suspended from the team following their arrests, are currently out on bond.

Eddie Williams, who was also arrested Sunday on a charge of carrying a pistol without a license following an incident at the BP gas station on University Boulevard, has requested permission to leave the state while out on bond.

His attorney, former Alabama football player Josh Swords, filed a request Thursday in Tuscaloosa County District Court to allow Williams to go back home to Panama City, Fla., under the care of his mother, according to court records.

Williams, Hayes and Pettway are accused of attacking a UA student early Monday and taking his backpack, which held a laptop computer. Williams is also accused of attacking another student in a separate incident and stealing cash, a UA student action card and credit and debit cards from him. Hayes and Pettway waited in a car "with knowledge of Williams' intent" during that robbery, according to arrest warrants.

According to police, Williams admitted to using the UA card and debit card to purchase snacks from a vending machine in Bryant Hall, and Calloway admitted to using the UA card for making purchases with knowledge that it was stolen.

Updated at 10:55 to clarify suspensions from the university and the players' suspensions from the team.
