SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) ? A former chairman of the California Republican Party has been arrested for investigation of drunken driving.
The California Highway Patrol says Michael Schroeder ? a political adviser to the Orange County's district attorney ? was arrested earlier this month in Orange County after his Porsche was spotted crossing lanes.
The Orange County Register reported Thursday that a CHP report says Schroeder had slurred speech and failed a sobriety test after being stopped at 3:20 a.m. on Nov. 1.
Blood-test results are pending.
He was cited and released.
The case was referred to the state because of Schroeder's ties to the local prosecutor ? his wife is the district attorney's chief of staff.
Schroeder attorney Al Stokke tells the newspaper the 56-year-old former GOP chief will "deal with it responsibly."
